West Beach is a sandy public beach located at Dunes National Lakeshore in Indiana. Open from morning to evening it remains closed only on Memorial Day through Labor Day. Walk-in traffic is welcome daily. A nominal fee is charged only in summer. Bath house with showers and lockers are available.

Located at the southern most tip of Lake Michigan, seagulls thrive here. Make note that the water is a long way off and it's best avoiding long walks by driving in. There are restroom facilities and 300 vehicles can be accommodated at the parking lot. Check for information listed for current activities.

Take in wonderful views from high dunes full of grass, jack pine and cottonwood trees. Follow the trail running along the scenic shoreline through the savanna into the woodland. Enjoy swimming in the cool waters of the Lake. Lifeguards are on duty in the summer. Fishing and bird watching are fun activities.

Aside from high dunes and the long sandy beach providing the outdoor experience you will love to watch the landscape and foliage that changes magically every half mile. Moving from the beach to the dunes to the wooded ridges is a fantastic experience. Enjoy hiking through the dunes on marked trails.
