Escondido "Hidden" Beach of Los Angeles
Escondido Beach is a narrow beachfront along Escondido Beach Road. It is really short and narrow with the high tide coming up to most of the houses. Remaining closed from dusk to dawn, this beautiful spot is popular with kayakers who find it a thrilling destination.

Access to the beach is less than four miles west of Malibu Canyon Road on the west side of Escondido Creek. The small, private street runs parallel to the beach. Escondido means "hidden" in Spanish and that is just what you feel as you get on the narrow street.

There is little traffic or noise on the dead-end Escondido Beach Road, much less on the beach front. With a public access gate for the beach on the east side of Escondido Creek there is a second access by a steep stairway. The waters here are noted for diving. There are reefs and a kelp forest relatively close to shore. It's also the habitat of giant black sea bass and giant kelpfish. A white shark pen off-shore is maintained by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Fishing is fun as is hiking during low-tide on this beautiful stretch of Californian shoreline. Get atop Pt Dume whale-watching lookout and enjoy the view.
