Cooney Beach Outdoor Recreation
Cooney Beach is located on the reservoir in Cooney State Park in south-central Montana. The reservoir is an extremely popular recreation area for boating, swimming, camping and fishing. Anglers are happy with walleye and rainbow trout fishing. Visitors enjoy boating opportunities available here. Campers can stay for a maximum of 7 days.
Cooney beach is 50 miles from Billings, 22 miles from Laurel, and 8 miles from Boyd, closest towns around the Park. There are 72 campsites on this 309 acre site that stands at an elevation of 4,252 feet. Amenities include boat trailer parking, vehicle parking, restrooms, maps, grills/fire rings, picnic tables.
Pets on leash are allowed in picnic area but not allowed on Marshall Cove Campground. Facilities like dock and ramp, fish cleaning station, drinking water, playground and coin-operated showers are available. Attractions include a golf course and three museums located nearby in Red Lodge.
The area includes a tributary of Red Lodge Creek adding to the water fun, camping and fishing. This is the most popular recreation area serving central Montana and is always busy during summers. Open year-round for other recreational opportunities, winters months are great for ice fishing and cross country skiing.
