Old World Charm of Brighton Beach, New York
Brighton Beach in New York is a community on Coney Island in the borough of Brooklyn. The beach is bounded by Corbin Place on the east, Neptune Avenue on the north, Ocean Parkway on west and Atlantic Ocean on the south. Developed in 1878 by a group of business men it was named after the Brighton Beach of England.
Patrolled by NYPD's 60th Precinct, the Beach is replete with restaurants, food stores, cafes, boutiques, banks and so on that are located mainly along Brighton Beach Avenue. The neighborhood has a distinctively ethnic feel with a sizeable Russian population settled here. In fact it is often called Little Odessa.
The proximity of Brighton Beach to the city makes it a popular summer weekend destination for thousands of New Yorkers. Brighton Beach station of the New York City Subway serves the neighborhood and the station is located on an elevated structure over Brighton Beach Avenue.
Brighton Beach is one of the largest Russian communities outside Moscow. On sunny days almost all residents make their way over to the outdoors by the beach. Clear skies and warm days attract cyclists, roller-bladers and dog-walkers. You can find all the attractions of a beachside with plenty of Russian stuff.
